What is Arthritis?
The word Arthritis paints a picture in most peoples mind of an older person who is hobbling around and suffering from joint pain. There are many types of arthritis which different causes but the most common types are Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
What Causes Arthritis?
A reduction in the normal amount of cartilage tissue in your joints can cause some forms of arthritis. Normal wear and tear causes OA, which is one of the most common types of arthritis. Your risk of developing OA may be higher if you have a family history of disease.
RA is another common form of arthritis which is an autoimmune disorder. RA occurs when the immune system attacks the tissues of the body. This type of arthritis can eventually lead to destruction of both cartilage and bone inside the joint.
